Quintus
Tasting notes
A deep, gleaming purple colour. Absolutely charming, the nose reveals a powerful aroma of blackcurrant, along with spicy notes. The first taste shows tremendous fineness, full of generosity. The wine develops, broad and tactile, covering the palate with its fruity, fresh concentration. The mineral structure, so characteristic of Saint-Émilion’s great terroirs, is revealed and brings us to an exquisite, almost saline, finish. What balance, what depth and what freshness all the way through the tasting of this wine! This Quintus is an accomplished, impressive wine, in which the terroir is indisputably enhanced by the skill of the blend.
The weather
Relatively mild, winter made way for a usual beginning to the season. Still supplied with water from reserves stored in 2024, the soils encouraged an early start to budbreak and consistency in the vines’ growth. All through spring, the teams were ready to swing into action, ensuring a watchful observation of the vineyard. Flowering occurred in superb weather conditions. From the month of June, the vintage became very sunny. Summer weather was extremely challenging though, marked by early periods of heatwave and a long-lasting lack of rainfall. The vine nevertheless showed great resiliency, drawing deeply on its vital resources. Green work was carried out in moderation and only in plots where vines were the most robust. The vineyard stayed very healthy, with veraison being consistent all over and giving naturally small berries, resulting from the lack of water.
The harvests, the second earliest in the history of the property, confirmed these details: grapes of small size, concentrated, and more pulpy than juicy, indicating excellent phenolic concentration. Precision in inter-plot selection enabled us to harvest each vine at a stage of perfect ripeness. The first juices reveal wonderful freshness, moderate degrees of alcohol and superb intensity of body. Certainly a vintage shaped by the sun, but underpinned by the teams’ know-how and deeply rooted in the expression of Saint-Émilion’s terroir.
